EMMA RICHMAN

Emma Richman is a New York-based violinist and chamber musician. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from The Juilliard School, under the instruction of Juilliard String Quartet first violinist Areta Zhulla, and was selected as one of fifteen students to receive the Juilliard Career Advancement Fellowship upon her graduation in May 2023.

A Minneapolis native, Emma began studying violin at the age of 5 with Susan Crawford, and later studied intensively with Minnesota Orchestra concertmaster Erin Keefe. She developed a passion for chamber music from an early age, studying in the Artaria Chamber Music School, mentored by Artaria String Quartet second violinist Nancy Oliveros. In 2021, Emma co-founded Marian String Quartet with friends and colleagues from Juilliard. The quartet completed two seasons together, mentored by Natasha Brofsky and Joseph Lin. They performed around New York City and made their Alice Tully Hall recital debut in 2022. With the Marian Quartet, Emma collaborated with violists Masumi Rostad, Misha Amory, and Hsin-Yun Huang, pippa virtuoso Wu Man, folk musician and composer Rhiannon Giddens, and Indian-American composer Reena Esmail. The quartet also worked with members of the acclaimed Brentano, St. Lawrence, Aizuri, Kronos, Arianna, Harlem, American, and Jupiter quartets.

Emma is a passionate advocate for education and community engagement, and strives to share her love for classical music. She holds faculty positions at the Great Neck Conservatory in Long Island, and at the The Eisman Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at Queens College. She is also a teaching artist for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s “Chamber Music Beginnings” series which provides interactive educational sessions and free concerts to students at schools across New York City, and is a roster artist with Concerts for Compassion.

As a freelance musician in New York and the surrounding area, Emma has performed with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, APEX Ensemble, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Roosevelt Island Orchestra, Symphony in C, Music for Food, and the New York Classical Players.
